Born and raised on the island, Thurber has spent a lifetime observing the people, places, architecture, and small details that make Key West unlike anywhere else. Those observations have become the foundation of an artistic career devoted to capturing what he calls “Conch Life.”

Working across watercolor and mixed media, Thurber turns familiar island scenes into lively visual stories. Old storefronts, conch houses, neighborhood landmarks, boats, tropical foliage, local characters, and places that might otherwise disappear with time all find their way into his work.
